Universal Robina Corporation’s (URC) brand of bread, Baker John, has entered into a partnership with GMA Kapuso Foundation for the ‘Bike for Good’ project. Through the initiative, bikes and bread products will be given away to 30 deserving beneficiaries.
Bike for Good will provide each of the 30 beneficiaries with a bicycle and a negosyo starter package comprising of Baker John products. Prioritized by the project are people who lost livelihood due to the pandemic and residents of Metro Manila and the nearby province of Rizal who also lost income sources due to the devastation of recent typhoons Rolly and/or Ulysses.
“Our goal is to provide assistance to those who are trying to adapt to this new, challenging situation in the time of the Covid pandemic,” said URC Flour and Bread Division Managing Director Ellison Lee. “Through this partnership, we hope the beneficiaries selected by GMA Kapuso Foundation will have the will—and the wheels—to keep going.” Lee added that Baker John will continue assisting them as they begin their community selling business.
GMA Kapuso Foundation also made sure it chose beneficiaries who are physically able and possess the ‘can do’ spirit—those who are willing to use the bike provided to sell Baker John products in their community.
“Covid and typhoon Ulysses brought economic devastation to residents of NCR (National Capital Region). GMA Kapuso Foundation is happy to help Baker John and URC find beneficiaries,” said GMA Kapuso Foundation Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Rikki Escudero-Catibog. “It is a very difficult time but in time of great adversity, there is also opportunity. Do not lose hope.”
Baker John is available in selected Robinsons, Rustan’s, Shopwise. And Walter Mart supermarkets as well as in Ministop branches nationwide.
