If your relationship status in your Facebook profile is still ‘Single,’ the world’s most popular social media site will soon come to the rescue to connect you with other single individuals in the network.
During the recent F8 developer conference for this year, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg confirmed that the company is working to add a dating service to its main app. “Today, we are announcing a new set of features, coming soon, around dating,” he said. Shortly after the announcement, more information about this plan was posted on the site’s blog.
“People already use Facebook to meet new people and we want to make that experience better,” part of the blog entry read. The social media site also hinted that its users will be given the option to create their dating profile, separate from their main Facebook profiles. Potential matches would be based on dating preferences, common interests, and even mutual friends.
The site promises to share more information once testing of the new service begins later in the year. But if you are a little anxious about possible privacy issues, Facebook already clarified that the new dating feature will be kept confidential and activities users do on the dating app will not be broadcast or shown to their friends and followers.
To distinguish the new dating feature from other dating apps and sites in the market today, Facebook emphasized that theirs would be “for building real, long-term relationships, not just hook-ups.”
