‘Go Green with Taiwan’ contest calls for innovative ideas for a green future

Press Release

If you have innovative ideas on how to achieve environmental sustainability amidst progress and technological advancement, don’t keep those to yourself. Share it with the world by joining ‘Go Green with Taiwan and your idea might deserve to be one of the three global grand winners to win US$20,000 each!

Go Green with Taiwan‘ is a global competition organized by the International Trade Administration (TITA) under the guidance of the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) of Taiwan and implemented worldwide by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA). The contest seeks modern program ideas on environmental sustainability from any group or individual of legal ages, around the world.

The campaign invites everyone to come up with ideas to help make the world a better place to live in through the use of innovative and technologically advanced Taiwanese products or solutions and achieve environmental or economic sustainability. For ‘Go Green with Taiwan,’ it adds that the campaign is not just about buying or selling products that are beneficial to the environment but also involves pivoting or redesigning the economic model as well.

At present, Taiwan is already implementing green-inspired initiatives or solutions that focus on certain sectors like Energy and Storage, Energy-Saving technologies, Low-Carbon vehicles, Eco-Friendly or ‘Green’ building materials, Environment-Friendly Equipment, and adoption of a ‘Circular’ economy that runs on a principle that materials never become waste or never thrown away and reduces the need to use more products.

In terms of Energy and Storage, it calls for the promotion and development of new alternative energy solutions like solar, wind, hydropower or hydrogen energy, or biomass, to lessen dependence on traditional energy sources. This can be done using efficient energy storage equipment and technologies like Microgrids and Thermal Energy Storage so that a stable energy supply is assured.

Another aspect related to energy is energy saving, where extensive research and development resulted in the introduction of energy-saving technologies such as highly efficient power-saving lighting like LED lighting, for example. Also introduced were architecture solutions where energy conservation is highlighted, energy-efficient household appliances, and the utilization of Energy Management Systems.

Concerning transportation/mobility, electric vehicles that use clean energy are being introduced through manufacturing and promotion, including other types like hydrogen fuel cell cars. Transport management systems are also included in the equation to promote low-carbon usage in the transport sector such as using ride-sharing services, coupled with supporting urban-planning policies to make transportation development truly sustainable.

Aside from energy and mobility, the campaign also pushes for the manufacture and development of so-called “green” materials that can be used for various industries aside from transportation, such as construction and packaging, products that should be eco-friendly, sustainable, and with low-carbon footprints as much as possible to make these products really environment friendly.

In terms of the Environmental Equipment industry, Taiwan is already pivoting to develop, manufacture, and provide equipment and solutions that will help lessen pollution of the environment while helping conserve relevant energy and its resources. Some of these include air and water treatment equipment, solid-waste treatment facilities, and renewable energy instruments, among others.

Fortunately, there is now a concerted effort for the adoption of a ‘circular economy’ that is gaining ground among many countries around the world, an economic model that adopts a ‘Make-Use-Recycle’ model instead of a ‘Take-Make-Use-Dispose’ traditional strategy and is hinged on three guiding principles to make its implementation an effective one.

First is the high-value utilization of resources. This involves redesigning material sources, product design, and material flow to enhance the usage of resources and minimize waste throughout the entire system.

The second one is the redefinition of business models, particularly the ‘Product-as-a-Service (PaaS)’ model, where producers retain product ownership and offer services to customers to avoid product uselessness and bolster both economic profit and resource circularity.

Finally, Taiwan espouses the belief that “no single country or company can achieve resource circularity or tackle the climate crisis alone.” The country believes that through circular collaboration, the seamless interconnection of material, information, and financial flow is enhanced, and likewise facilitates the emergence of circular good ideas and good businesses, where focus is shifted from a manufacturing-oriented to a service/knowledge-oriented value network.

Joining Go Green with Taiwan is relatively easy wherever you are anywhere in the world. Just come up with a comprehensive proposal on sustainability and you have that once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make a difference by making Planet Earth more sustainable and livable, for this generation and the next. To join, input proposal details via the online form found at https://gogreen.surveycake.biz/s/eLGWV.

Once the proposal is completed, submit it by August 31, 2024, which is the preliminary round. Applicants shall then answer a questionnaire to complete the process. From all the submissions, 16 will then be chosen to qualify for the semifinals.

Taiwan Excellence promises to make it worth your while. For the Finals stage, only the Top Six (6) finalists will fly to Taiwan—all expenses paid—for the opportunity to make a pitch and present their entries. The Top 3 global winners of ‘Go Green with Taiwan‘ will each receive a whopping US$20,000. How’s that for creating a better world?

To qualify, submitted proposals will be judged based on the following criteria:

  • Sustainability – 25%
  • Feasibility – 25%
  • Connectivity – 25%
  • Innovation – 25%

Simply go to the Go Green with Taiwan official website and register (https://gogreen.taiwanexcellence.org/). Again, better hurry because the deadline for submission of entries is only up to August 31, 2024.
