One of the country’s major broadsheets, the Manila Bulletin, is once again rolling out its annual Earth + Lens photo exhibit. Launched on August 20, 2024, the new collection of nature photos are now displayed at the Hyundai Hall of the National Museum of Natural History in Manila and will be open to the public until September 1 (Sunday).
Earth + Lens 2024 is showcasing pictures that convey stories on how natural life are swaying with nature. The exhibit features photos taken by some of the today’s outstanding photographers and photojournalists in the country using HUAWEI Pura 70 series smartphones.
Among those partner photographers were Silver Belen, Noel Pabalate, and Jan Mayo who all shared their personal experiences with using the device when they visited various destinations across the country. They delved into their own creative process, showcasing not just the intricate beauty of the outdoors but also the advanced features of the Pura 70 series, including the Telephoto Macro Shot and Portrait Shot.
“I wanted every photo to reveal incredible landscapes and life forms that define the Philippines,” said Mayo during the exhibit’s launch. “The HUAWEI 70 series’ clarity and versatility helped me capture more than that. I captured moments that speak volume about our commitment to preserving nature. It’s an honor to share these images and inspire others to protect our environment.”
For his part, Belen highlighted the features that endeared the HUAWEI Pura 70 during his shoots. “With every click of the shutter, my goal is to highlight the delicate balance between life forms and their natural surroundings. The advanced features of the HUAWEI Pura 70 series, such as the Telephoto Macro Shot, enabled me to capture these moments in stunning detail, and see and appreciate the wonders of our environment up close.”
Each photograph in the exhibit is printed in fabric canvas using eco-solvent ink, offering a fresh perspective on the lesser-explored parts of some of the country’s tourist destinations—Quezon City, Bohol, Leyte, Batanes, Ifugao, and South Cotabato.
The annual Earth + Lens aims to increase public awareness of the featured environmental-related issues. It features the planet’s best and most captivating moments captured through the lens of a camera. This year’s theme, ‘Motions in Nature,’ highlights the natural movements in nature as well as elements’ motion.
“The National Museum regularly attracts scores of visitors who are interested in the history and cultural heritage of our country. The purpose is to really bring these images to as many Filipinos as possible so they may have a broader vision and knowledge of what makes our nation a great country,” said former Presidential Communications Office Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr, also the publisher of the Manila Bulletin.
Manila Bulletin’s Earth + Lens: Motions in Nature photo exhibit is organized in partnership with HUAWEI, the Department of Tourism, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), and the National Museum of the Philippines. ‘Motions in Nature’ perpetuates the tradition of highlighting the grandeur of the country’s nature, with an expanded focus on the movement of life forms in harmony with the natural landscape.
