MSI Gaming announces first-ever University Championship in PH

MSI is bringing its first-ever University Championship as it aims to further bring its gaming arena closer to Filipino students. The tournament is set to run from October 30 to December 4, 2021. Registration will begin on October 7, 2021.

Local e-sports fans, gamers, and enthusiasts can witness the intense battle between collegiate teams in Riot Game’s popular first-person shooter, Valorant.

The MSI Gaming Arena (MGA) University Championship has spanned Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Singapore, and now the Philippines. It aims to recognize the emergence of e-sports in the country and at the same time promote the importance of camaraderie among universities even without the traditional face-to-face engagements.

“MSI together with AcadArena, ESL Gaming, The Gaming Company, One Up e-sports, Riot Games, and VNG are proud to bring the heat and thrill of gaming experience among universities in the Philippines,” said MSI Philippines General Manager Jessica Chen, who also revealed that the program will adhere to local school schedules, as long as possible.

“We highly encourage the students to join the fun and the spirit of competition, hoping this could relieve a bit of their stress from the ongoing pandemic and online classes,” Chen added.

Every country’s Championship will be independent to best serve the player base. In the Philippines, the championship dates to mark are as follows:

  • October 7 to 27 – Registration
  • October 30 – Qualifier 1
  • November 6 – Qualifier 2
  • November 13 – Qualifier 3
  • November 20 – Qualifier 4
  • November 27 – Quarter Finals
  • December 3 – Semis
  • December 4 – Finals

MSI is holding a prize pool of ₱200,000 plus other special items for the winners of the first-ever Philippine University Championship. The event is powered by Globe Telecom in partnership with AcadArena.
