PLDT and UP Open University conclude Infoteach Outreach Webinar Series

PLDT has concluded the latest rollout of its digital literacy program that aimed to inspire students and educators to practice lifelong learning. More than 19,800 learners from across the country participated in the 10-session Infoteach Outreach Webinar Series. The giant telco firm partnered with the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU).

Infoteach Outreach Phase 6 training rollout in May was top-billed by Lifelong Learning, which served as the program’s final session. It was attended mostly by public school students from Grades 7 to 12.

“We together with our UPOU partners, are happy to conduct these webinars,” said PLDT Community Relations Head Katherine Diaz De Rivera. “The courses were designed to offer more learning opportunities for students, despite pandemic conditions, encouraging them to engage in lifelong learning.”

The Infoteach Outreach training program is a flagship initiative of PLDT’s corporate social responsibility efforts. It is also a component of PLDT Group’s long-term, broader program that supports the local education sector. The webinar series also underscores the conglomerate’s commitment to helping the country attain the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs) especially SDG #4—Quality Education as a foundation in improving people’s lives and obtaining sustainable development.

“Something has to change in our attitude towards learning and how we can look at learning,” said UPOU Chancellor Dr. Melinda dela Peña. “Hindi ‘yan parusa sa atin (Learning is not a kind of punishment). This is not something that we are doing because we are obeying our parents. Lifelong learners are motivated, hindi kayo itinutulak, hindi tayo pinipilit (we are not pushed, we are not forced). We are motivated to learn and develop because we want to do it. It is a deliberate and voluntary act.”

Aside from Lifelong Learning, the program also covered other important topics like Digital Productivity Tools; 21st Century Competencies; Online Collaboration Tools; Effective Communication Skills; Responsible Use of Social Media; Digital Literacy; Global Digital Citizenship; Introduction to Sustainable Development Goals; and Cyber Security.
