Multinational e-cigarette maker RELX International has entered into a partnership with social enterprise Liyab to train and produce more aspiring entrepreneurs in the country.
Under this formal alliance, Liyab—an organization founded in 2020 to empower young Filipinos through imparting education and career support services online—will help facilitate the rollout of the global company’s RELX Academy, which in turn sponsors business courses curated by leading global universities for budding entrepreneurs.
“As a startup ourselves, we understand the many challenges small businesses and aspiring entrepreneurs face especially during these unprecedented times,” said RELX International Regional General Manager Lawrence Chew. “In partnership with Liyab, we hope to do our bit to equip Filipino entrepreneurs with relevant knowledge and skillsets with the RELX Academy.”
For its part, Liyab, through its CEO and founder Deirde Conde, expressed its gratitude to team up with RELX International in honing future entrepreneurs. “In the past year, we have truly seen the need to show Filipino youth the various employment, education, and entrepreneurship opportunities that they can engage in to achieve their career goals,” Conde said.
RELX Academy is part of RELX International’s Green Shoots program, which aims to champion and empower small businesses across the globe. It will be launched initially in the Philippines—a country where up to 99.5% of registered businesses are comprising of micro-, small-, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).
Green Shoots is one of the three major programs of RELX International’s RELX Pledge, a company-wide effort that focuses on the protection of young people, consumers, and economic livelihood in countries where the company operates. The other two programs are Guardian (prevents minors from buying the products) and Golden Shield (focusing on eliminating counterfeit RELX products in the market to assure consumer safety).
