The Philippines is not getting left behind for the worldwide observance of Social Media Day. Filipino online and mobile users are getting free access to the most popular networking sites Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Wattpad on July 1 from 12 noon to 9 p.m.
All mobile subscribers of Smart, TNT, and Sun Cellular nationwide can enjoy the 9-hour treat courtesy of freenet, a free online access platform of PLDT and Smart Communications’ digital financial services unit Voyager Innovations. However, they need to first download the freenet app on Google Play (for Android) or Apple Store (for iOS) and create an account for free. Users must access any or all of the four social media sites through the app to enjoy the freebie within the specified time frame.
Through this, Smart subscribers using freenet app can virtually participate in the #NextPH Social Media Day event, which will be held at the Samsung Hall of SM Aura Premier in Bonifacio Global City from 12 noon to 9 p.m.
International tech website Mashable started Social Media Day on June 30, 2010 in recognition and celebration of social media’s growing impact on global communication. The annual July 1 celebration in the Philippines (which has been observing Social Media Day since 2012) is in-sync with the June 30 date set by Mashable in the U.S
