Sony Philippines and the World Photography Organization have announced the National Award winner for the Sony World Photography Awards 2020. It is a photograph entry entitled ‘Master’ by North Gevero. The winning entry was submitted for the Portraiture category of the Open competition.
“This shot is a stitch panorama character portrait of a friend,” Gevero revealed about the photograph, which was anonymously chosen by awards’ judges. The photo composition was shot using Sony’s Alpha 6000.
Gevero’s work was among the more than 345,000 images that were submitted by photographers from across the globe to the Sony World Photography Awards 2020 competition. From those, over 190,000 made it to the Open competition for Portraiture—so far the highest volume of entries for the category in the competition’s history. Being the National Award winner for PH, Gevero won a Sony A7R IV and SEL2470GM.
The National Awards program was created by Sony and the World Photography Organization to support local photographers in 63 nations around the world. The awards-giving body recognizes one photographer from every participating nation. Every winning photo serves as a standalone image and will be included in the winning photos from every participating nation that will be showcased in the Sony World Photography Awards 2020 exhibit set from April 17 to May 4, 2020, at the Somerset House in London.
