How Twitter celebrated World Music Day 2021 in PH

The Itchyworms

Twitter is undoubtedly one of the online platforms where people from across the globe discuss and share music. Across Southeast Asia, ‘local music’ and ‘local DJs’ were mentioned 65% more on the microblogging site from January to May 2021 (compared to same period last year).

That is why it is not surprising that Twitter marked the celebration on World Music Day on June 21 by launching a campaign that highlights local musicians in the region. #TweetYourMusic celebrated local musicians and their journey as well as their fans that keep on supporting them.

To celebrate World Music Day, there were fun and creative activities facilitated of course on the site. Across the region, Twitter Polls were rolled out and local musicians performed live via Twitter Spaces.

In the Philippines, these were how #TweetYourMusic rolled out:

June 21 – Cornerstone Entertainment gathered some of its artists on Twitter Spaces—including Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray, TJ Monterde and wife KZ Tandingam, Kenji, NKO, and Jason Dy. The group talked about the power of music.

June 25 – Pop Emergency interviewed Stef Arana of the R&B Pop duo Stef & Euge on Twitter Spaces. She talked about music that inspired the vibrant LGBTQ+ community.

June 21—25 – Sony Music Philippines had a week-long celebration on Twitter Spaces that featured the music journey of some of their label’s artists like Timothy Run, We Got, the vowels they orbit, Hazel Faith, Alex Bruce, Zelijah, and The Itchyworms.
