Sun Life Philippines has launched a 3×3 basketball challenge several days ahead of the 2023 FIBA World Cup, which will be opened in Manila on August 25.
The three-day Sun Life 3×3 Charity Challenge upholds the commitment to help empower Filipinos to live healthier and more active lives. At the same time, the unique event serves as a charity program wherein Sun Life commits to donating CA$1,000 (₱40 million) to local non-government organizations (NGOs) in renovating basketball courts and rolling out physical activities across communities.
This fun philanthropic program also aims to create a legacy that could last even after the 2023 FIBA World Cup. Across social media, the event would also remind people that #MovementMatters.
“Sun Life 3×3 Charity Challenge is a perfect opportunity to leverage Filipinos’ love for basketball,” said Sun Life Philippines Chief Client Experience and Marketing Officer Carla Gonzalez-Chong during the press conference held before the event kick-off on August 18. “We want to be able to leverage on this passion to promote physical activities and movement and at the same time, raise funds for more communities to live healthier.”
Sun Life 3×3 Charity Challenge also reemphasizes the partnership between the brand and Basketball Canada. The Canadian basketball team will fly to the Philippines for the FIBA World Cup. (Sun Life PH parent is based in Canada.)
Sun Life 3×3 Charity Challenge aims to sign up 400 participants to join the fun games from August 18 to 20 at the basement of SM Megamall Building A. The activities are open to everyone. Some celebrities, sports personalities, Sun Life PH employees, and financial advisors will also step in to join the fun.
Participants will take home special Canada Basketball jerseys. For non-basketball players and those who could not drop by the site, posting on social media about the activity is also encouraged. Just post a photo or video showing why #MovementMatters. Every social media post share or like will contribute ₱4,000 to the cause.
The 2023 FIBA World Cup will be hosted by the Philippines along with Japan and Indonesia from August 25 to September 10. The Philippine team Gilas Pilipinas will begin its World Cup journey on August 25 against the team from the Dominican Republic in a match set at the Philippine Arena.
