Manila Water has marked the celebration of World Water Day in the country through opening an art exhibit that highlights the importance of water to society and the nation as a whole.
In partnership with the Manila Water Foundation, CANVAS (Center for Art, New Ventures, and Sustainable Development), and One Ayala, the publicly listed water treatment and distribution company inaugurated ‘Waterscapes’ on March 24 at the Concourse, located at the second level of One Ayala Mall in Makati City. The art exhibit is open to the public for free until April 4, 2024.
The art exhibit features commissioned water-themed masterpieces by more than 100 prominent and up-and-coming Filipino artists from across the country. Waterscapes is also the 16th installment of the annual CANVAS’ Art for Development Outdoor Banner Project. Every year, the organization invites selected artists to create artworks based on a theme of particular social relevance.
On the other hand, World Water Day is an annual United Nations Observance celebrating water as a relevant resource. At the same time, it raises awareness of the lack of access of marginalized groups to safe water. Held yearly since 1993, the World Water Day is about taking action to tackle the global water crisis and supporting the achievement of SDG 6, which pertains to water and sanitation for all by the year 2030.
After the art exhibit, images of the featured artworks will be used in art banners that will be installed at the future site of CANVAS’ Tumba-Tumba Children’s Museum of Philippine Art in Ibaan, Batangas as well as in other pedestrian-friendly venues to bring both the art and the theme closer to the general public in non-intimidating and relaxed environments.
Moreover, proceeds from the sale of the artworks in Waterscapes will support CANVAS and the Manila Water Foundation for the promotion of greater awareness and appreciation of the Philippines’ culture and the environment.
Visit Waterscapes at the Concourse (2nd Level) of One Ayala until April 4, 2024. For inquiries, send an email to info@canvas.ph.
