Press Release
From island to island, PlayTime Entertainment shows up for the country’s biggest festivals. This Saturday (October 17), it brings free ice cream and local dancers to MassKara.
Since 2024, PlayTime Entertainment has become a familiar face at festivals across the Philippines, from Luzon to the Visayas to Mindanao. Wherever Filipinos gather to celebrate, it joins in with its own kind of happiness. Bacolod’s MassKara Festival is one of those stops, and PlayTime Entertainment returns to it year after year.
“Wherever there is a celebration, we want to be there, and we want every single person to walk away smiling a lot more than when they arrived,” said PlayTime Entertainment President Crisanto Roy Alcid. “MassKara has always been about choosing happiness, and that is a spirit we share.”
Where the smiles come from
MassKara began in 1980, a hard year for Bacolod. Sugar prices had crashed, and a ferry tragedy that occurred in April the same year took the lives of many Negrenses. The city’s artists and leaders acted with a festival of smiling masks, a way of saying Bacolodnons would choose happiness anyway. The name blends “mass” and the Spanish cara, or face. Today, tourists from across the country and around the world flock to the City of Smiles every October, making it a must-stop on the Philippine festival calendar.
