The community quarantine implemented in most parts of the country due to the Covid-19 pandemic has affected many local businesses in various aspects. Thus, job losses and higher unemployment are expected as numerous companies start to take the crunch and inevitably resort to drastic schemes to stay afloat. Moreover, thousands of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) have also been repatriated, while there are still more fresh graduates who are on the job market.
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) initially estimates the number of displaced workers in the country to have reached over 2 million since the implementation of the community quarantine in March. The workforce in Metro Manila is obviously the most affected. Meanwhile, quarantine measures are also serving as impediments for companies to continue their recruitment processes.
The interesting times have prompted JobStreet.com to launch its #TogetherAhead initiative. This is in line with the job portal’s commitment to be right at the forefront of rebuilding businesses and careers nationwide.
Through #TogetherAhead, JobStreet.com is rolling out its Covid-19 Jobs and Resources Hub that posts available job opportunities fit for the present-day situation, particularly those that are home-based or freelance. The microsite presents information on financial assistance available from the government to serve as a guide for employees and companies. It even publishes critical information resources from the website’s extensive network to motivate jobseekers for their next career path and at the same time to guide employers.
“Some companies have paused accepting applications, but many of them remain actively recruiting,” said JobStreet Philippines Country Head Phillip Gioca. “We’d like to encourage job seekers that there’s a way for them to signal hirers that they are up for urgent hiring.”
JobStreet Philippines has recently released its Job Report, based on job market data it has generated throughout the lockdown period in the country. The online job site notes that there are still more than 21,000 companies that continue to hire on Jobstreet.com.
