Guam expands Covid-19 vaccine eligibility to 16 years old

(Press Release)

Since receiving its first shipment of vaccines on December 15, 2020, Guam has been proactively vaccinating the island based on their priority groups.

As of March 29, 2021, Guam has fully vaccinated over 25% of its qualified population and over 39% have received at least one dose. In order to accelerate the process and more quickly reach the target set by the island’s Governor—who aims to vaccinate 50% of Guam’s adult population (approximately 62,500 people) by May 1, 2021 and 80% of the qualified population by July 21, 2021—the Vaccine and Antiviral Prioritization Policy Committee (VAPPC) has approved to expand the Covid-19 vaccine eligibility criteria to residents ages 16 years and older. Effective immediately, minors can get vaccinated at designated medical facilities and locations.

On the other hand, Guam has been reporting low positive numbers in recent months to demonstrate the effectiveness of the system to contain the Covid-19 virus on the island. Also, Guam Visitors’ Bureau’s (GVB) Guam Sale Certified X WTTC Sale Travels is now available for stores and businesses to apply to showcase their health and hygiene protocol and get ready for tourism reopening.

GVB has stated that they are working day and night just to provide a safe and hygienic travel destination for those who favor Guam. As the island continues to work day and night to combat the pandemic, the consumers shall soon expect to return to Guam once again.

Editor’s Notes: Eligibility for vaccination in the U.S. is 16 years and older. A giant pharmaceutical firm is currently asking the US Food and Drug Administration to grant emergency use of vaccines to individuals starting age 12.

Guam currently has an estimated population of almost 169,000.

Flights from Manila to Guam are indefinitely put on hold until further notice.
