Acer PH raises the ire of netizens for its ₱2,022 laptop sale on weekend

Acer Philippines got an overwhelming response for its #TechFridayDeals that lasted from January 14 to 17, 2022. Thousands of online customers were excited when the Taiwan-based PC maker first announced the sale on its social media pages on January 10. But the exciting sale turned sour instantly when the clock turned 12:00 a.m. on January 14.

As expected, numerous customers patiently waited and decided to keep up until midnight to get the chance to purchase a new Acer Aspire 3 A3140350C733 for just ₱2,022. The road was certainly paved with good intentions but it led to a nightmare when netizens started ranting online to complain about not being able to log in to the official Acer PH store, where the deal was exclusively facilitated. Those who were able to log in could not check out the item, while some were surprised to see a status that indicates the item has run out of stock.

Disgruntled netizens took to Acer PH’s FB and Twitter accounts to rant about not being able to have that very rare chance to buy a new laptop for that incredible price.

The company was quick to address the hate posts, though. By 12:04 a.m., Acer PH FB page posted an advisory thanking participants for the support and for them to “expect to have things back up and running soon.”

At 3:01 a.m., Acer PH posted an apology. “We would like to express our sincere apologies if you were unable to access our Online Store. Our team is currently working overtime to keep up with the volume of traffic and to improve our website’s functionality to better serve you. We hope you can continue to check back with us until the sale period concludes, as we will periodically replenish our inventory of laptops. We appreciate your patience,” the post read.

That was the last statement from the company about the issue. As of this writing, that post has so far generated over 5,000 sad, laughing, and angry emoticon-reactions and an overwhelming 7.1K comments. The earlier advisory got over 11,000 reactions and over 13,000 comments, mostly expressing disappointment.

Two hours before the start of the online sale, Acer PH said it had limited stocks for the laptop that would be put on sale for just ₱2,022. It also emphasized that it had some other laptops that are on sale for up to 22% off the regular prize.

Were you among those who waited that night and got disappointed for not being able to buy the ₱2,022-laptop?
