On its 10th year, Global Culinary and Hospitality Academy is celebrating a big victory, especially that it was named the Overall Champion at the recent Philippine Culinary Cup 2017, which was held during the World Food Expo (WOFEX) held on August 2 to August 5 at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.
The culinary institution made a record for having won the title for the third time. It scored a back-to-back win in 2013 and 2014. After that record, it decided not to join the same competition in 2015 and 2016.
Global Academy’s 30-man delegation to the competition comprised of 17 students who earned 15 out of the 31 medals brought home by the team. Overall, the institution bagged 11 gold, 14 silver, and 6 bronze medals and at the same time earned the highest scores in most of the categories.
Chef-instructor Gerhard Oscar Gendrano was named Best Chef after winning seven medals, four of which were Highest Golds in Creative Breakfast Challenge, Divella Pasta, U.S. Pork, and U.S. Poultry categories.
“This is a great achievement for our 10th anniversary,” said Global Academy Co-Founder and President Chef Benjamin Ledesma Jr. “With our three-time overall champion record for PCC, we’ve set the bar higher for the coming years. We are excited to take on this challenge.”
