Google Search brings anime characters in 3D and AR to mobile devices

Filipinos love Japanese animations or anime. In fact, according to Google, the Philippines has been the top country with the most online searches for characters like Hello Kitty in the last five years. The country is No. 8 for Little Twin Stars searches and No. 9 for Gundam.

Thus, Google Search now provides access to some of the most popular anime characters in 3D and augmented reality (AR) on users’ mobile devices. These anime characters are Hello Kitty, PomPomPurin, Little Twin Stars, Ultraman, Gomora, Ultraman Zero, Ultraman Belial, Pac-Man, Taiko no Tatsujin, Evangelion, Gundam Penelope, Gundam Odysseus, Xi Gundam, and Cogimyun.

“Filipinos are one of the biggest fans of anime and Japanese pop culture in the world. Tagalized anime series used to dominate on free-to-air TV, becoming a significant part of many Filipinos’ childhood. Now, in the digital era, we want to use Google Search to bring anime fans closer to their beloved characters and bring back their fondest memories with them,” said Google Philippines Head of Communication and Public Affairs Mervin Wenke. “During difficult times, we hope that simple joys like this can also provide comfort in one way or another.”

To access the 3D version of any of the above-mentioned anime characters, simply search one on the Google app (Android and iOS) using your mobile device. Tap “View in 3D’ to instantly rotate or zoom in to see the character up close.

You may even bring the anime characters from outer space into your space in AR. Turn up the volume to hear how Hello Kitty delivers a cute message or enjoy Pac-Man’s retro sound effects.

You may take a photo or video of the anime characters’ AR versions using the camera or recording button. Share those photos or videos on social media using the hashtag #Google3D.
