Ask Maps, Google Maps’ biggest transformation in over a decade, is now here in the Philippines—and it can help Filipinos navigate the rainy season. Ask Maps is helping people use Maps and get around in entirely new ways, from finding a restaurant where you can actually hear each other talk, to mapping out a scenic three-hour road trip. Building on this, Google is now making Ask Maps even more helpful with real-time information on places and routes.
Asking Maps is simple: open your Google Maps app and tap the “Ask Maps” button just below the search bar. From there, you can ask it anything about any location, road, or route.
Using Maps on rainy days
Part of the detailed information that Ask Maps can give is real-time updates on road conditions and closures, especially during the rainy season, typhoons, and storms.
You can ask something like, “Are there any closed or flooded roads from Quezon City to BGC?” From there, you’ll see all of the updates summarized just for you, including live delay alerts. If the roads are all clear, it will tell you that, too. Want to know what places are also open for business? Just Ask Maps, and it will show you.
It isn’t just about the roads and the routes, as well—you can also Ask Maps about places to go to, especially when you’re stuck and stranded because of the rain.
Try asking it something like, “What’s the best ramen or noodle soup place in Ortigas that I don’t have to walk in the rain for?” and it will immediately pull up spots near where you are and even suggest specific routes and tips to get there dry. Have fun playing around with it to see what it can suggest for you!
