The biggest International Scotch Day was celebrated simultaneously in more than 70 nations worldwide on February 8. Multinational alcoholic beverage maker Diageo made sure the global event would be grander than ever, especially in the Philippines, where most of its brands continue to dominate the high-end alcoholic shelves.
To kick-off the Philippine leg of the global tribute to scotch, the company brought Hollywood star James Marsden to lead celebrations in Manila. The 44-year-old actor spearheaded the third #LoveScotch party in the country, which took place at the Manila House Private Members Club in BGC, Taguig City on February 6.
“Scotch has always been one of my favorite drinks,” said Marsden. “I’m excited to be in the Philippines to usher in International Scotch Day celebrations with my fellow Scotch enthusiasts.”
Unique taste
Marsden was joined by Global Scotch Whisky Ambassador Ervin Trykowski, who since his arrival to Manila several days ago has also hosted several tasting sessions to introduce and highlight three of Diageo’s top offerings this year—Johnnie Walker Black Label with its smoky taste; Johnnie Walker Gold Label Reserve, which is noted for its sweet and honeyed taste; and Singleton of Dufftown 12 that beams with its fruity taste.
“No other spirit can offer the same range of tastes, textures, and flavors such as Scotch,” Trykowski said. “Whether you already love Scotch or you just haven’t found the one for you yet, #LoveScotch is all about exploring those tastes and finding the one that suits yours.”
While the kick-off party was being held at the Manila House, three other popular bars in the metro—12/10, Yes Please, and The Curator—whipped up cocktails to enable scotch lovers in this side of the planet to enjoy the alcoholic beverage in many ways.
Scotch Day
#LoveScotch in PH is extending its celebration to cover the entire month of February. It is being celebrated through collaboration parties, guest bartending shifts and bar takeovers, and other special activities in other bars and retail stores across the metropolis.
Meanwhile, the International Scotch Day is held annually in many other parts of the world to celebrate whisky and its unique character, flavor, and personality. This event is observed every second week of February to coincide with the birthday celebration of Alexander Walker, the son and successor of John ‘Johnnie’ Walker, the genius who introduced Scotch to the world. Alexander is also among the most influential Master Blenders in the world.
You can still be part of this whisky celebration by using #LoveScotch and #InternationalScotchDay whenever you post in Facebook, Instagram, and/or Twitter.
