JobStreet PH reveals 10 industries with highest job-ads salary hikes in 2021

About 50% of total job posts in JobStreet Philippines in 2021 came with upgraded pay rates across 22 industries nationwide. This was revealed by the leading online job portal when it released its 2021 Salary Report. The figure was the highest compared to data in other countries where the website operates—Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and Hong Kong.

Overall, the average salary growth of all jobs posted in JobStreet PH during the period was 22.9%. The job portal says this could indicate that the country is “inching its way to recovery.”

“The report aimed at providing candidates with information and insights to manage their salary expectations and to help improve their career planning, while also assisting employers in making strategic hiring offers and decisions,” said JobStreet PH Country Manager Philip Gioca.

JobStreet reported over 105 million job searches in 2021, with more than 75,000 job vacancies offered through the website daily at any given time. The JobStreet 2021 Salary Report compared salaries from the portal’s pool of employers between the first to third quarters with data from the same period in 2020. Aside from the Philippines, the research was also conducted in five other countries.

Based on JobStreet’s 2021 Salary Report, here are the Top 10 industries that reflected the highest pay rises:

On the other hand, the Top 10 industries with job ads that came with downgraded salaries are here:

In terms of job specialization, jobseekers specializing in the following were offered higher salaries: Education/Training (65%), Healthcare (57%), Administration and Human Resources (54%), Computer/IT (50%), and Manufacturing (49%). The industries have been seeking quality candidates who are digitally savvy, who could keep operations, and who are experts in the medical field amid the pandemic.

JobStreet also observed that the public sector has been in need of quality employees. Amid the new normal, Computer/IT and Telecommunications industries have been thriving and luring qualified candidates with higher compensation. The same trend has been observed in Digital Marketing (Marketing and Advertising industry).

Meanwhile, JobStreet has also observed that mobility restrictions during the pandemic have had adverse effects on salary ranges in several industries. Thus, pay cuts were reflected in jobs ads from the Oil & Gas, Consumer Goods, Hospitality, and Retail Industries. Lower salaries were also offered by jobs in the Banking and Real Estate industries, possibly caused also by the country’s overall economic condition.

Even the Call Center/IT-Enabled Services/BPO industry, which held most jobs in the market with bigger offers, was not spared. About 41% of job ads posted by several companies in the industry had lower salaries compared to rates in 2020.

“The pandemic has had a huge impact in the labor market in the past couple of years. This also made the competition for quality talents steep among hirers, causing employers to make adjustments to their offerings, policies, and work environment,” Gioca said.
