Lazada Forward Women Awards recognizes 18 women-entreps across region

Lazada celebrated International Women’s Day on March 8 by recognizing outstanding women in e-commerce across Southeast Asia. The giant online shopping platform hosted the sophomore edition of the Lazada Forward Women Awards direct from Lazada One, the company’s flagship office and headquarters in Singapore. It was live-streamed via in-app LazLive in Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, and Singapore.

A total of 18 women entrepreneurs were recognized this year after four new award categories were added—bringing the overall award categories to seven. Those award categories were Creative; Enterprising; Inspiring; Rising Star; Bricks to Clicks Tech Adopter; Social Star; and the most prestigious Lazada Forward Woman of the Year Award, which was conferred to six sellers from each country where Lazada operates.

The awards still spotlighted the achievements of the recognized women, who are all owners of successful businesses or are sellers on the Lazada app. Lazada emphasized that all the 18 women successfully found their creative niches, challenged social norms, and grew their businesses through the e-commerce platform.

“It is incredible to witness the remarkable achievements of women sellers across Southeast Asia’s digital commerce ecosystem,” said Lazada Group Chief Operating Officer Raymond Yang. “Our Lazada sellers have continued to innovate and adapt their businesses to the e-Commerce environment, cater to their customers and enhance product offerings. We are proud to journey alongside these winners and create a world that is diverse and inclusive.”

There were three awardees from the Philippines. Elyse Juan of Papemelroti won the Bricks to Clicks Tech Adopter award for successfully bringing the 55-year-old family-owned stationery business to Lazada during the onset of the pandemic in 2020.

Meanwhile, Evan Maderazo, owner of a local shoe brand called Sundals, was a runner-up for the Inspiring award. Monalisa Gao who owns Lucky HR, an e-commerce trader of gadgets and home products, got the Lazada Forward Woman of the Year award for the Philippines.

“Since starting Lucky HR in 2013, I would have never thought that I would reach this level of success,” said Gao. “There have been many different challenges in this journey, but since going online partnering with Lazada, I have witnessed a positive growth and the ability to scale the business.”
