LRT-1 gives free rides to passengers on peak hours of New Year’s Day

Passengers of the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) has something to rave about on the first day of 2018. The Light Rail Manila Corp, the operator of the oldest railways network in the metro, is giving away free rides to all its passengers on Monday (January 1) during the busiest hours of the day.

The free rides will be implemented from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. in the morning and from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the afternoon. Regular fare will be observed beyond these times.

To avail of the free rides, passengers still need to get single journey tickets at any of the tellers’ booths in any of the LRT-1 stations. Those tickets will take zero fare amount.

For those who are using stored value beep cards, they can directly enter through the passengers’ gates as usual by tapping in their cards into the card reading slots. Those beep cards with insufficient amounts for rides and zero balance will be able to pass through within the specified times. Meanwhile, no fare deduction will be implemented to those beep cards with sufficient or high load amount.

Take note that ticket vending machines in each station will not issue single journey tickets during those free-ride hours of the day. But those machines can accommodate loading or topping-up transactions for beep cards during those times.

LRT-1 has 20 stations traversing Baclaran to Roosevelt in Quezon City.
