Viu & ABS-CBN Entertainment showcase metal sculptures by Richard Buxani

(Edited Press Release)

Viu, the leading pan-regional over-the-top (OTT) video streaming service of Hong Kong-based PCCW Group, recently co-hosted the inauguration of a special art exhibit with ABS-CBN Entertainment that presented select pieces from artist Richard Buxani’s metal sculptures portfolio.

Imahica Art Gallery describes the Imus-based sculptor as having a dynamic and contemporary universal approach to his works, integrating pop art, religious beliefs, popular icons, and architectural sensibilities to achieve his style. Buxani follows a bend and weld method or what he refers to as ‘MateRealization,’ when working with metal, either black iron sheets or brass, to create his remarkable sculptures.

The exhibit, which will run for a limited time only, showcases 11 black iron and brass sculptures from Buxani’s Samurai, Athlete, and Warrior Collections. The highlight of the show is one of the artist’s latest pieces in collaboration with actor Piolo Pascual. Entitled ‘Flower of Evil,’ the brass on stainless steel artwork depicts a giant monster being speared on the chest by a man and was created as part of the actor’s metal sculpting training in preparation for his role in the local Viu Original Adaptation of the Korean thriller drama, Flower of Evil.

In his first drama series in four years, Pascual gives life to metal craft artisan Jacob del Rosario, who changed his identity to hide a scandalous past. To bring depth to his latest character, Pascual went through an immersive crash course in metal sculpting, particularly on gas welding, under Buxani. This involved working with gas and getting the right temperature to produce a blue flame that will allow them to bend the metal pieces to complete an artwork. Meanwhile, Lovi Poe’s character, Iris del Rosario, is a police detective determined to solve a serial murder case that eventually leads her to investigate her husband, played by Pascual.

“We are grateful for Mr. Buxani for allowing us to feature his incredible sculptures in Flower of Evil and for going the extra mile of collaborating with Piolo to create an amazing piece of art inspired by the series. It is our honor to be hosting this exhibit as a platform to feature the talent and creativity of Filipino artists. We are excited for our Viu-ers to see and appreciate how his pieces showcase Filipino craftsmanship in addition to world-class film production and acting,” said Arianne Kader-Cu, Country Manager of Viu Philippines.

Flower of Evil is the first Viu Original Adaptation from the Philippines that will be shown in 16 markets across Asia, the Middle East, and South Africa. It streams simultaneously on Viu 48 hours before its domestic television broadcast (which started on June 23). This most-awaited series is the second program under the content partnership between Viu Philippines and ABS-CBN Entertainment, following the huge success of The Broken Marriage Vow.
