All is set for the first Clark Sunset Marathon slated on Saturday (December 9) at the Parade Grounds of Clark Freeport Zone in Pampanga. The first of its kind marathon concept to be mounted in the Philippines is a night run that entices running enthusiasts to enjoy a cooler and more exciting marathon experience.
Runrio and event partners Clark Development Corporation and the Tourism Promotions Board of the Philippines hope that through this Sunset Marathon, Clark will be established as a world-class running events venue. This run is also intending to put the Philippines into the global marathon map through securing standard accreditation from international race distance governing body AIMS/IAAF.
The landmark running activity takes inspiration from other world-famous running events like the Boston Marathon, Singapore Marathon, New York Marathon, and the Tokyo Marathon. The organizers aim to gather up to 5,000 running enthusiasts from all over the country and other parts of the world.
First-class run
“When we started conceptualizing the Clark Sunset Marathon, we wanted to have a first class running experience that targets not only local runners but also foreign running enthusiasts,” said Runrio Events President Rio dela Cruz.
“Our goal is to make Clark Sunset Marathon not just a one-time event, but to have an annual running event that will make our country one of the top running destinations in the world,” dela Cruz added.
Categories and cut-offs
Clark Sunset Marathon has four running categories—5KM, 10KM, 21KM, and 42KM. The full marathon gun start is set at 5 p.m., with the start of the 42KM race (with 7-hour cut-off time). The other categories—21KM (4-hour cut-off time), 10KM (2-hour cut-off time), and 5KM (1-hour cut-off time)—will immediately follow at 5:15 p.m., 5:30 p.m., and 5:45 p.m., respectively.
After the race, the event will culminate with the Clark Sunset Marathon Music Festival. The after-party celebration will kick off with DJ Ashley Rivera and DJ Tom Taus providing the coolest dance music.
