Sony has announced a firmware update to its FX6, a full-frame Cinema Line camera. Version 2.00 includes Real-time Tracking based on artificial intelligence (AI). It is a long-awaited Auto Focus feature that facilitates extreme precision especially when the user tracks subjects.
Real-time Tracking also uses color, pattern (brightness), and distance (depth) data when processing spatial information in real-time. AI detects and keeps track of the eyes and face of the subject—for tenaciously high accuracy.
The same firmware update also includes breathing compensation so that you could have consistent angling for viewing when focusing. It even has bokeh control mode, a new technology that takes advantage of the variable ND filter. The mode instantly adjusts the ND filter and gain when the ins is operated. Thus, it is easier now to adjust the amount of bokeh while suppressing exposure changes.
Moreover, the FX6 also facilitates 16-bit RAW output to an external recorder via HDMI, allowing the flexible use of advanced post-production. This makes it ideal for movie makers. RAW output from HDMI also skips the need to convert from SDI to HDMI, allowing shoots with a more compact shooting system.
There’s more! The new update also comes with improvements that include a new picture cache recording function for capturing video retroactively for continual recording without filling up a memory card or missing a crucial moment. This is also useful when in S&Q mode.
The FX6 is part of Cinema Line, Sony’s series of products that bring the company’s expertise in imaging technology to a broad range of filmmakers and content creators.
