Starting October 21, 2020, Sun Cellular’s prepaid service is rebranded as Smart Prepaid. Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) has completed the shift that brings a much better mobile experience to existing Sun Prepaid subscribers (now Smart Prepaid subscribers).
Customers will be retaining their Sun numbers while having access to expanded retail and customer care channels, data-packed GIGA offers alongside existing select Sun Top-up offers, and a wider array of perks and rewards. As Smart puts it, “It is the same Sun that people love made even better.”
The former Sun Prepaid subscribers, now Smart Prepaid subscribers, can now also enjoy the numerous perks of being in the Smart network—including the GIGA bundles like GIGA Video, GIGA Stories, and GIGA Games all with generous data allocations catering to customers’ various lifestyle needs and passions. The GIGA offers enable subscribers to stream videos, share stories on social media, and play games using Smart’s LTE network.
To avail of the promos, Smart Prepaid subscribers can just press *123# on their phones to instantly access the network’s promos. They can also go to over a million e-load Smart retailers nationwide to buy bundled promos.

Smart Prepaid subscribers also enjoy GIGA Study, a prepaid data pack aimed at giving students simpler access to a selection of learning apps and productivity tools such as Google Suite—which includes Google Classroom, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Gmail, Meet, and drive—as well video platforms YouTube and YouTube Kids, and Microsoft 365, which includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Teams, and OneDrive.
For those working from home, GIGA Work offers access to the most popular online meeting apps, like Google Hangouts, Microsoft Teams, and Cico WebEx. It can also help subscribers with their ride-hailing, online shopping, delivery tracking, and online payment needs through Grab, Lazada, Lalamove, Shopee, PayMaya, and GrabPay.
Smart’s parent company PLDT gained control of Sun Cellular in March 2011, when it acquired a majority stake in Sun’s original parent company Digitel, then the third telco player in the country. In 2012, Smart completed its network link with Sun. Through the years, Sun Cellular had remained as a separate entity, though it has also been powered by the vast and powerful network of Smart.
