Tech Review: OPPO A57 (2022) is an impressive basic smartphone

If you are looking for a basic smartphone that looks stylish and comes with impressive battery performance, the glow-up version of OPPO A57 is a new device you must consider.

The 2022 version of the OPPO smartphone can never go wrong for users who are a little conscious about the cost. It can easily top the list of basic devices priced around or under ₱10,000. Tech and Lifestyle Journal got hold of OPPO A57 and finds it impressive enough for a basic smartphone—not close to flagship performance, though, but decent enough to carry out the common requirements of the modern lifestyle.

Phone design that you can flex

If phone aesthetics matter more to you, OPPO A57 is a good choice without breaking the bank. Judging by its look, the smartphone can easily create a really good impression with its chic and sophisticated appearance. Thus, it can make a great fashion accessory when you’re out to impress at social gatherings or when hanging out.

The glowing black handset we got is truly a head-turner—looking elegant enough to give the more expensive smartphones in the market a run for their money. The solid body comes with feel-good flat edges and round corners, complemented by the glittery finish that seems to resist dust and evade possible scratches and smudges from us, careless users. The body is about 164mm long, 75mm wide, with a thickness of just 8mm—weighing just 187 grams.

The control buttons are easy to spot—the power button with a fingerprint sensor on the right side and the volume control beside the SIM tray on the left. At the bottom are the USB-C port for charging, the 3.5mm round audio jack, the built-in speaker holes, and the built-in microphone.

Screen, cameras, and under the hood

The color-rich panel makes a fair screen, making up for the relatively decent display resolution (1612 X 720). The waterdrop notch is typical, and the bezels are noticeably thick, based on modern standards. OPPO A57 boasts AI Eye Comfort with blue light reduction technology that makes the screen easy on the user’s eyes. You can even switch the screen to monochrome when reading downloaded documents or browsing through websites.

Of course, in the OPPO tradition, this smartphone can never be shy about its cameras. The dual cameras consist of a 13-megapixel main sensor and a 2-megapixel monochrome sensor. The selfie camera placed on the front is an 8MP cam that can shoot good portraits and naturally-looking selfies, especially even in poorly-lighted surroundings (It also features a 360-degree Fill Light, or in-screen lighting, that optimizes selfies in low-light surroundings.).

OPPO A57 is powered by an obscure MediaTek Helio G35 4G chip, which somehow brings about limitations especially when the smartphone is used for heavy mobile gaming. But again, this is understandable given its price point. On the other hand, it can perform well when used for other basic smartphone tasks. 4GB RAM is still okay and the storage comes in two options—64GB and 128GB.

Impressive battery life

For its category, OPPO A57 is excellent when it comes to battery. Its 5,000mAh battery can make wonders, so you don’t have to worry about easily losing enough battery power when you’re on the go. Its 33W Fast Charging feature enables it to fully charge the device in just a little more than an hour. This gives the impression that OPPO focused more on the battery when it was designing the smartphone.

Conclusion

OPPO A57 is a stunning basic smartphone. It comes with good battery life and produces photos that are impressive especially when taken outdoors using natural daylight. The 4GB/64GB variant can be purchased for just ₱8,999, while the 4GB/128GB version costs ₱10,999. The smartphone can also be bought online via Shopee and Lazada.
