New rendition of ‘Baby Shark’ teaches good hygiene to fight Covid-19

YouTube channel Pinkfong has reworked its hit jingle earworm ‘Baby Shark’ to advocate good hygiene as the world fights Covid-19. ‘Wash Your Hands With Baby Shark’ encourages kids to wash their hands using soap—the best and most effective way to curtail the possible spread of the new coronavirus according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The reworked song and video also teaches covering one’s sneeze and/or coughing it into the elbow—a way to prevent the spread of tiny droplets of fluid that may travel through the air for up to several feet.

The new video was uploaded on March 21, 2020 and has since generated 5.8 million views (as of this writing). At the same time, the video creator rolled out the #BabySharkHandWashChallenge to encourage parents to upload the videos of their kids while washing their hands to the catchy song.

Pinkfong uploaded the video of the original ‘Baby Shark’ version in its YouTube channel in June 2016. That video, which has to date generated over 4.7 billion views, is among the top five most-watched YouTube videos of all time. The viral kiddie song also entered Top 40 of the Billboard Top 100 list in 2019.
