YouTube has made it easier and faster to find and watch news videos from reliable and authoritative sources. The popular video-sharing platform on November 10 announced and launched a new watch page, initially available for mobile users in 40 countries, including the Philippines.
The new immersive watch page experience for news stories pulls together content from traditional and verified news producers across video-on-demand, live streams, products, and Shorts. The new feature enables YouTube viewers to deep dive and explore multiple sources and angles per news and related topics. Within the News watch page, you can easily find relevant long-form videos, live coverage, and even Shorts.
The new feature comes at a time when other video-sharing platforms like Meta (FB and Instagram) and X (formerly Twitter) veer away from ‘legacy media’ and authoritative news outlets in their respective platforms.
The new watch page will appear when you open a news video coming with a newspaper icon. Alternatively, you can also click on the YouTube home icon (left side of the screen) and find the ‘News’ feature along with Trending, Music, Gaming, Sports, and Fashion & Beauty.
Upon entering the News watch page, you can select news videos per category: Top Stories, Sports, Entertainment, Business, Technology, World, National, Science, and Health. The new feature is designed for users who do not want to watch or find videos from fake news peddlers or propagandists.
Moreover, YouTube has also announced a $1.6 million (about ₱86.4 million) budget allocation to help promote the creation of shortform Shorts news content with more than 20 news organizations across 10 countries.
