It’s the time of the year. Jollibee is once again launching three short films for Year 5 of its #KwentongJollibee Valentine Series. The highly popular and viral Kwentong Jollibee has made it an annual tradition to upload a triple treat of romantic videos depicting different types of inspiring love stories.
“Challenges and rough times are felt more now than ever before, leaving people a little doubtful of love,” said Jollibee Foods Corporation (JFC) Philippines Country/ Regional Marketing Head and Jollibee Philippines Marketing Head Francis Flores.
“That is why this year, what we would like to highlight is that there is strength to be found in the love that is determined to overcome all hardships, and make it work,” he added. “As a brand that takes pride in chronicling the stories of Filipinos, we continue this significant tradition of celebrating Valentine’s Day by featuring real-life experiences of our loyal customers. This time, set against the backdrop of the pandemic, a situation we’re all in.”
Since 2017, over 36 Kwentong Jollibee short films have been produced and released. Those have generated a combined 600 million views and over 970 million impressions. Kwentong Jollibee has also gone beyond Valentine’s, as episodes have also been launched in anticipated red-letter day occasions.
LDR
The first of three short films for the Kwentong Jollibee Valentine Series is a video directed by 2020 Metro Manila Film Festival Best Director Antoinette Jadaone. ‘LDR’ is about a unique long-distance relationship.
The LDR story of Brian and Mina started when the lockdown was implemented in March 2020. The boyfriend-girlfriend found their selves stuck in a long-distance relationship because everyone was advised to just stay at home to help flatten the curve of Covid-19 in the country.
During the virtual conference for Kwentong Jollibee hours before LDR was uploaded, Jadaone revealed that Jollibee Studios and its partner agency handed hear the script of the short film prior to actual production. But the popular director revised some parts to fit the treatment she envisioned for the short film. This is why the main character in the video appeared to be talking to herself throughout the film.
LDR was uploaded on Jollibee Studio’s FB page and YouTube channel on February 4, 2020.
First Date and Hero
The second short film in the series entitled First Date will be released on February 8, 2021. It will be about being forced to live alone during the lockdown. The film was directed by internationally acclaimed director Pepe Diokno, who was among the directors of the first three Kwentong Jollibee short films in 2017.
The third film, Hero, will be released on February 12, 2021. It is directed by Ianco dela Cruz, the guy behind Vow, the popular Kwentong Jollibee Valentine short film in 2017. It talks about the kind of love that can help a person get through the most difficult moments.
