Twitter finally rolls out its revamped account verification system

As previously announced, Twitter has started rolling out its new verification application process. The microblogging site is now allowing public figures to distinguish their selves with the blue checkmark on their accounts. The badges are meant to indicate they are who they claim they are.

The website recently announced that it will begin displaying the new verification application system directly in its Account Setting tab. A Twitter account user can submit the verification application from there. Upon submission of the application, the applicant will receive a response via email.

Twitter also noted that each verified account application will be processed by a team comprised of real individuals, not automated. Thus, it says the process may slow down during ‘busy times.’ Once approved, you will automatically receive your profile badge. If declined, you could re-apply after 30 days. There will be no limit on how many times you could re-apply.

To qualify for Twitter verification, you should be within six categories: government; companies, brands, and organizations; news organizations and journalists; entertainment; sports and gaming; and activists, organizers, and other influential individuals.

Also be sure to make your Twitter account complete—with profile name, image, and confirmed email address or phone number. The account should also be active within the past six months.

Twitter is set to introduce more categories later in the year (probably including scientists, academics, and religious leaders). To get updated about the verification process, follow @Verified on Twitter.
