Free travel, lifestyle, entertainment, technology, and news multimedia magazine Village Pipol mounted its first-ever VP Choice Awards on January 23, 2020. The awards night, presented by Casino Filipino with Red Entertainment, was attended by about 200 guests who filled the Casino Filipino Manila Bay main ballroom.
The awards night was hosted by TV’s new it-girl Ashley Ortega and noontime pageant winner Jin Macapagal. It featured awards across three major categories: travel, lifestyle, and entertainment.
Over 140 nominees from readers were gathered from September 15 to November 15, 2019. VP Choice Awards created its own selection system to determine the winners: 50% from online voting; 30% from the choices of its editorial team; and 20% from the panel of experts. The online voting process ran from December 5 to December 30, 2019.
K-Pop inspired boy band SB19 and vlogging sensation Mimiyuuuh spearheaded the list of about 30 winners, as announced during the awards night. SB19, also the most searched male personalities in 2019 in Google search, took home the Group Performer of the Year Award. Mimiyuuuh, the uprising vlogger who was also recently tapped to be a voice featured in Waze navigation app, was named the Breakthrough Social Media Star of the Year. The online star together with another uprising celebrity Benedict Cua bagged the VP Cover of the Year Award.
