iPhone is turning red. Apple Inc has unveiled special edition iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, both in unique red aluminum finish. And as we know the giant tech company, it would not take such an action without an interesting reason.
The vibrant red iPhone versions have been launched to commemorate a decade of partnership between Apple and (Red), an ethical consumerism brand established by U2 front man Bono and philanthropist Bobby Shriver in 2006 that donates fund to causes like The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria.
Currently, (Red)’s global activities focus on life-saving HIV/AIDS endeavors in sub-Saharan Africa, where over two-thirds of the world’s HIV-positive population reside. Apple has committed to make a contribution to the program for every purchase of any of the special products.
A decade-long partnership
“Since we began working with (Red) 10 years ago, our customers have made a significant impact in fighting the spread of AIDS through the purchase of our products,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook. The company has so far donated over $130 million to (Red), which overall has already generated more than $465 million for its Global Fund since its establishment.
“The introduction of this special edition iPhone in a gorgeous red finish is our biggest offering to date in celebration of our partnership with (Red), and we can’t wait to get it into our customers’ hands.”
Red iPhones
The special red handsets will feature the stainless steel Apple logo. Both iPhones will be available in 128 GB and 256 GB versions and will have all the specs and features of the original iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. Product roll-out is set globally beginning March 24. It is also expected to be available in the Philippines.
These special edition handsets will be part of Apple’s Product Red campaign, which already includes a red iPod shuffle, red iPod nano and touch, red Apple Watch sport band, and red device cases.
