Simultaneous livestock, aquaculture trade shows aim to help boost agriculture

The livestock and aquaculture subsectors are taking the centerstage this time of the year as Informa Markets brings back Livestock Philippines and Aquaculture Philippines. The simultaneous events be jointly held from June 25 to 27, 2025 at the World Trade Center Manila in Pasay City.

Livestock Philippines is an international trade fair for innovative production and processing of poultry and livestock. Since its establishment in 2011, it has become a major B2B event dedicated to livestock, poultry, feeds, meat and aquaculture sectors, with the consistent goal of helping promote and contribute to the growth of the country’s agriculture industry.

On the other hand, the concurrent event, Aquaculture Philippines showcases the latest innovations and trends in the aquaculture sector. It has become a venue for the most awaited conference sessions about fisheries and aquaculture, still among the most promising subsectors of agriculture in the country and the region.

“Livestock Philippines 2025 and Aquaculture Philippines 2025 are pushing these two important sectors, the livestock and aquaculture, to further grow stronger and contribute to the overall performance of the agriculture industry. We have always believed in the importance of livestock and aquaculture in nation-building,” said Rungphech ‘Rose’ Chitanuwat, Country General Manager of Informa Markets in the Philippines.

State of livestock and aquaculture sectors

The livestock situation report for 2024, released by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), shows a general decrease in inventory in the country as a whole. Production of carabao and swine decreased, while poultry production increased.

Not surprisingly, information from the Bureau of Animal Industry indicates that overall meat imports in 2024 grew by 20.8 percent to 1.45 million metric tons compared to 1.2 million metric tons in 2023. This was attributed mainly to the higher cases of avian influenza and swine flu that affected poultry and swine production, respectively. Pork accounted for 50.6 percent of meat imports, while chicken and beef accounted for 29.4 percent and 14.1 percent, respectively.

On the other hand, the country’s fisheries production grew by 1.5 percent to 0.99 million metric tons in the first quarter of 2025, based on latest report by the PSA. This increase is attributed to higher production in inland municipal fisheries and aquaculture, which performed better than marine municipal fisheries during the period.

The aquaculture subsector reported a 4.9 percent production growth in the quarter to 573.28 thousand metric tons from 546.76 thousand metric tons in the same period in 2024. Aquaculture had the highest share (57 percent) in total fisheries production in the period. Seaweed, milkfish, tilapia, and Indian mackerel had higher quarterly production compared to other species.
