Google Philippines joins the rest of the country in commemorating the 121st Philippine Independence through its special doodle that rolls out on June 12, 2019. Within the day, the search engine will display an image of a waving Philippine flag in line with this celebration.
This online observance will align with the numerous festive parades that are set nationwide—including a police and military parade in the city of Manila. This event often culminates with a speech delivered by the President himself, followed by a 21-gun salute.
On June 12, 1898, the Philippines, an archipelago of over 7,100 islands in the western Pacific Ocean, finally claimed its freedom after a Spanish colonial rule that lasted more than 300 years. To mark this historical event, a commemorative flag-raising event is held annually in Kawit, Cavite, where the Declaration of the Philippine Independence was done.
This year, Google is honoring the Philippine Independence Day for the 10th year in a row. In 2018, the search engine’s doodle tribute to the celebration featured the country’s rich marine life.
