Waze rolls out Railroad Crossing Alert feature in PH and other countries

As more and more Filipino motorists return to the road amid slowly relaxing quarantine protocols, Waze has added another unique feature that helps ensure their safety. The popular road navigation app now provides alerts to users especially those who are approaching a railroad crossing.

Local Waze map editors have incorporated railroad crossings into the map of the Philippines. The newly added feature highlights the potential risks associated with driving near or over railroad crossings. This new feature has also been simultaneously added in Waze maps in Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Indonesia, Italy, Israel, Ireland, Hungary, Malaysia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, the UK, and Uruguay.

“The Railroad Crossing feature is a result of a cross-industry, cross-sector collaboration, both internally within Waze and the community, working together to help fellow drivers map out all highway-railroad intersections,” said Waze Head of Public Sector Partnerships Dani Simons. “This feature exemplifies Waze’s commitment to building for its Driving app, being the first to implement features, and emphasizes our focus on safety.”

This new feature automatically alerts drivers, using the latest version of Waze on Android or iOS, who are approaching any railroad crossing. A banner will appear on the Waze app highlighting the crossing and advising the driver to approach with caution.
