It is estimated that six doctors attend to every 10,000 Filipinos. Deficiencies in the country’s healthcare system have exasperated with the emergence of the ongoing pandemic. The higher burden on the national healthcare system has further depleted resources for people who are seeking medical assistance in general, increasing the need for more accessible and affordable healthcare services.

This is why the recently forged partnership between global insurer MAPFRE and the non-government organization Philippine Red Cross (PRC) can be considered as a timely and strategic one. This team-up promises to bring world-class care and insurance to Filipinos amid the challenges of unprecedented times.

This alliance also leverages the insurer’s numerous years of expertise in providing a broad range of insurance solutions (home, accident, and car insurance, among others) and PRC’s experiences in the delivery of healthcare services to the people. The two entities also share the advocacy to enable nation-building and provide more quality services to protect Filipinos wherever they are.

“This partnership is very timely as the Covid-19 situation stressed the importance of prioritizing one’s health,” said MAPFRE Insurance Corporation President and CEO Tirso Abad. “By collaborating with the Philippine Red Cross, we are able to reach and provide protection to more Filipinos through the non-life and life coverage from MAPFRE and Insular Life.”

The MAPFRE-PRC tie-up specifically introduces the PRC Prestige Membership Card, the latest addition to the NGO’s roster of membership cards that facilitate donations. The PRC Prestige Membership Card is the only card locally so far that provides members with life and non-life insurance coverage, with the life insurance component covering death due to Covid-19. For now, it also the only card that provides both life and non-life insurance coverage with these benefits;

  • Priority assistance on blood requests
  • Priority access to ambulance services
  • 10% discount on safety training
  • Accidental death and disablement cover worth ₱200,000
  • Unprovoked murder and assault cover with ₱200,000
  • Term-life coverage worth ₱200,000
  • Fire cash assistance worth ₱20,000

“More than just allowing MAPFRE to extend their reach, the partnership also lets the PRC fulfill its mission of helping those who need it the most,” said PRC Chairman and CEO, Senator Dick Gordon.
