PLDT’s new monthly installations jump 80% in third quarter of 2020

PLDT’s new broadband installations per month have jumped 80% in the third quarter of 2020. The giant internet service provider reported about 72,000 new connections per month in the quarter from an average of 40,000 each month in 2019.

“As demand continues to outpace capacity, with service applications having doubled, we are meeting this surge in demand by ramping up installation capability,” said PLDT Senior Vice President and Head of Home Business Menardo G. Jimenez. “Installations are expected to spike to at least 100,000 homes per month, moving forward.”

As of the end of September 2020, PLDT’s rollout of its Home broadband services reached 46% of the total cities and municipalities nationwide. The company said it continues to cater to data connectivity needs of Filipinos, especially during these pandemic times when more people are working and studying from home.

In areas where its fiber service is not yet available, PLDT continues to deploy its wireless Home WiFi service powered by its mobile subsidiary Smart’s 4G/LTE network.

During the onset of the community quarantine in March, the company’s expansion efforts and investments had helped it cope with the sustained growth in data traffic. PLDT Home had initiated the #Safe@Home program during the stricter community quarantine period until June 2020 to provide the strongest connections at home and ensure continuous services for customers. The program included giving Home Fibr customers a free speed boost to at least 25 Mbps and double-the-data packages for fixed wireless subscribers.

From June 2020 onwards, it launched the #RediscoverHome campaign to enable families to realize that everything that matters can be found in their homes. The campaign features Fibr Plans that offer unlimited Fibr, Whole Home WiFi coverage, and Cignal HDTV. PLDT is enabling more families to Work@Home and Study@Home.

In line with all these, PLDT has posted a 10% increase in its total revenues in the first nine months of 2020, compared to the same period in 2019. This is attributed to the sustained demand for its services and its stronger installation capability.
