As most people around the world have been forced to stay at home, the number of tweets about video games for the first time breached the 2 billion mark in 2020. That was a jump of 75% from 2019 and was reflecting a 49% in unique authors.
The microblogging site said numerous gaming enthusiasts across the globe used the platform to talk about the biggest moments of the year. Twitter also served as a venue for connecting with fellow gamers as most people couldn’t connect in person.
Not surprisingly, Filipinos who are into gaming also made their presence felt on Twitter. The growth in conversations about gaming across the Philippines jumped to 87% in 2020 from the volume in 2019! The country also ranked No. 9 in the list of countries that tweeted most about gaming in the year that was.
