CIMB Bank Philippines has reiterated its commitment to empowering Filipino millennials through better financial products and financial literacy programs. The leading digital banking services provider aims to hurdle financial limitations, especially those cited in the bank’s research about the biggest roadblocks in pursuing life purpose.
In collaboration with Southeast Asia consumer research agency Milieu Insight and the Ateneo Business Resource Center of the Ateneo de Manila University John Gokongwei School of Management, the study found that 1 in 2 millennials in PH are not pursuing or believe that they are not making progress on their life purpose. The study/survey also revealed that 65% of Filipino millennials cite financial limitations as their biggest barrier for pursuing life purpose.
“To learn that half of the Filipino millennials are not actively pursuing what they think they’re meant to do and their life purpose because of financial limitations, we took it upon ourselves to let them know that CIMB is here to encourage them to live their life purpose,” said CIMB Bank Philippines Chief Marketing Officer Bunny Aguilar. “We will provide better accessible financial solutions and financial literacy awareness to help them and our customers achieve their life goals.”
Aguilar also disclosed that the bank would soon launch an active financial literacy campaign and offer meaningful financial products as an advocacy for the Filipino millennials. He added that the study and the partnerships with Ateneo and Milieu Insight are the first steps in repositioning the CIMB Bank Philippines brand with purpose at the center.
“With our #LIveYoururposeWithCIMB program, we will focus all efforts on making CIMB brand in the Philippines as the digital banking service provider that helps our customers pursue their life purpose,” Aguilar said.
What’s your biggest regret?
“You may have regrets, but it’s how you live forward that matters.” This is the main message of the documentary that was also recently launched by CIMB Bank Philippines.
“When we hear the word ‘regret,’ it’s always negative. It should not stay that way. So we had to look for different people, with different responses. They have many regrets, but later on, viewers would see how these people are able to live their lives with those,” said multi-awarded film director Antoinette Jadaone, who was commissioned to produce the short video.
It was originally planned to be a short film about living your purpose. But later on, from being a narrative film, it was decided that it should feature real people with real stories, instead of characters. In the end, a very short documentary was produced.

Bringing value to Filipinos
“As we look at different ways on how we can bring value, we address the need and provide more solutions to the communities we serve. More importantly, we begin conversations among Filipinos,” said CIMB Bank Philippines CEO Vijay Manoharan.
CIMB today has close to 7 million total customers, over 3 million of which are Filipinos, making CIMB among the fastest-growing banks in the region. Since it started operations in 2018, CIMB Bank Philippines has helped solve problems and bring value to Filipinos. It has achieved various milestones—including making it easier and faster to open a savings account via mobile devices; making banking available 24/7 online; charging minimal or even zero fees for some services; and offering higher interest rates on savings accounts.
“We want to go a step further as we provide solutions and value and help people have easier access to credit so they can get the things they want. I’m confident that this partnership will help pay forward and create much more effective collaboration and help each other achieve goals and objectives together,” Manoharan concluded.
