Cebu Pacific celebrated another milestone on March 29. The country’s leading airline flew its 200 millionth passenger onboard a Manila to Cebu flight. Manila-Cebu was the first-ever route Cebu Pacific took when it started operations in 1996. Currently, it flies the route for up to 18 times daily.
The lucky passenger, Salbert Garces, was personally recognized by Cebu Pacific President and Chief Executive Officer Lance Gokongwei onboard 5J575 bound for Cebu. He will get free unlimited flights to any Cebu Pacific domestic destination for an entire year.
“We are excited to safely fly everyJuan to their destinations so they could reunite with their families and loved ones, or pursue their business interests, or revisit tourist destinations,” said Gokongwei. “It is encouraging to see and feel travel confidence returning. We thank our passengers for their continued trust, and we will endeavor to live true to our promise of providing safe, affordable, and accessible air travel for everyJuan.”
Cebu Pacific also plans to restore more than 100% of its pre-pandemic domestic capacity in April 2022. The carrier revealed that it has ramped up its flight network as pandemic travel restrictions ease. This marks a strong start for the company’s 26th year, which it celebrated earlier in the month.
The airline has noted a 200% jump so far in its average daily flights for domestic and international destinations combined. Cebu Pacific currently flies 300 flights daily, from just about 100 in 2020 after the onset of the pandemic. The company also noted that the volume of flights from Manila to key domestic destinations like Boracay and Cebu has already exceeded 2019 or pre-pandemic flight frequencies.
Cebu Pacific is presently operating 96% of its pre-pandemic domestic capacity. This improvement allows the airline to carry more passengers and bolster its cargo service for faster and more efficient movement of goods across its widest domestic network—covering 33 local destinations.
